Yin Yoga is a slow-paced type of yoga that focuses on stretching and releasing fascial tissue in the body including tendons and ligaments. Because fascial tissue takes time to engage, poses or “asanas” in a Yin Yoga class are held for a long time, typically 3-5 minutes or more. In Yin Yoga the muscles are relaxed, and form is less important than how one feels in the poses. Yin Yoga is suitable to most level of students – what distinguishes between a beginner versus an advanced practice is the length of time one stays in the poses.

Helena Bacellar has been practicing yoga since 2000 and teaching since 2003. Her initial teacher training was in the Anusara tradition where she graduated from the 400-hr Willow Street Yoga Teacher Training Program in Takoma Park, Maryland. Through 2007 she added more than 100 hours of Yoga Therapy Training mostly in the Anusara Tradition, with Jenny Otto, Doug Keller, Kathleen Hogan and others. She has also studied some Para Yoga with Rod Stryker. More recently in 2017 Helena completed a 50-yr Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Bernie Clark and Diana Batts in Vancouver, BC. Helena is a massage therapist focusing on releasing restrictions in fascial tissue, which she does through Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy, in addition to Yin Yoga. Helena is very dedicated to embracing the yogic path and healing the body-mind- heart-soul connection.
